The Grande Carnivale Parade added an amazing cultural element to "The Grande Country Carnivale" 2017. Full of colour, culture and creativity, it had an incredibly positive impact.
There were three categories for participants to enter which were "Grande", "Country" and "Carnivale", and a $500 cash prize was given to the winner of each category. Judging these winners, were Golden Guitar winner and bush balladeer "Keith Jamieson", Award winning guitarist "Alisha Smith", and Sacred Circus Entertainment creative director "Michelle Harris".
The Parade featured both professional and non-professional artists. Those who were commissioned to perform in the parade were not eligible for the prize money, as opposed to those who registered as a participant.
Considering that there were three categories to enter, the participants of the parade showed their creativity and unique cultural and artistic diversity, for a great range of arts were showcased in the parade including giant puppets, clowns, stilt walkers, Saloon girl characters, superhero characters, comedy characters, musicians, cartoon costumed characters, dancing horses, rick riders, pioneer inspired characters, country characters and more.
The Parade was largely popular partly due to a range of "Carnivale Arts"Workshops which were offered in the weeks leading up to the event, which encouraged participants to ignite their creative potential, and create an artistic piece such as a costume, mask, giant puppet etc and join in the parade, many of which did so.
A cheerful audience were delighted to see the parade weave around the park, and were encouraged to join in also. Children had the opportunity to make masks at Free "Mask Making workshops" at the event over the weekend, and participate wearing these masks if they so wished.
The fact the parade engages with the community and showcases the coming together of many creative minds are great attributes to this activity.
Overall, "The Grande Carnivale Parade" was an astounding success, being a major highlight to the weekend. Given that this year was the inaugural event and much interest and engagement has been shown, there is no doubt "The Carnivale Parade" will grow increasingly popular each year with both participation and audience, and stand out as one of the most colourful, vibrant and exciting activities featured at The Grande Country Carnivale.
