Mardi Gras is a duo that currently performs in restaurants, pubs and for private functions.
The band’s repertoire is drawn from popular R&B songs of the 70’s/80’s, easy listening jazz and blues favourites.
Both Mardi and Rob have performed a number of times at the Brisbane Jazz Club and recently at the Paris Jazz Club in Montmartre, Paris.
Mardi began her singing in country Victoria in the sixties, as a member of the Rebelettes. The group performed around Victoria at dances, appeared on the “Go Show” on Melbourne TV and performed as support for the Bee Gees.
Mardi moved on to full time residency contracts in bands in Sydney, Melbourne, Mt Isa, Thredbo and the Gold Coast. At the same time Rob was working as a sax and flute player in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne playing R&B, Motown and Rock.
After both joining the “Surfriders” and performing at Whiskey Au Go Go, the Lido, the Winston Charles, Waltzing Matilda and the Southside Six, in Melbourne, Rob and Mardi travelled overseas to entertain the US and American troops in Vietnam. Following ten months in Vietnam they continued to work with the “Third Edition” and later the “Orient Express” in Australia, Bangkok and Singapore.
Rob and Mardi are now resident in Brisbane and continue to entertain audiences with their music, as the duo “Mardi Gras”.
